Understanding Bereavement/Funeral Leave

Paid bereavement leave for the purposes of preparing, attending, and/or traveling to the funeral for your immediate family or close relative is provided under all collective bargaining agreements and the policies for management and confidential employees.

Upon request, bereavement/funeral leave may be supplemented with other leave credits.


Process to Use Bereavement/Funeral Leave

Notify your Immediate Supervisor and/or Appropriate Administrator (MPP) if the need to use Bereavement/Funeral leave should arise

Enter the leave in 菠菜网lol正规平台 @ Work using Report and View Absences (your manager or a timekeeper in your department can also enter the leave on your behalf)

You will be required to enter the relation of the family member who passed away when you enter the leave


Bereavement/Funeral Leave by Employee Category

Physicians (R01) Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative.
CSUEU (R02,5,7,9) Five (5) days for an immediate family member.
Faculty (R03) Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member.
Academic Support (R04) Five (5) days with pay for each death of a significantly close person.
Skilled Trades (R06) Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative or immediate family member. Restrictions apply to hourly employees.
Public Safety (R08) Two (2) days for each death of an immediate family member; three (3) days if travel of over five hundred (500) or more miles is required.
IUOE (R10) Five (5) days for each death of a significantly close relative, or domestic partner.
Academic Student Employees (R11) Two (2) days with pay for each death of an immediate family member, or three (3) days with pay if travel of over 500 miles is required. Up to three additional days of unpaid bereavement leave. (Maximum of five (5) days). Bereavement leave must be taken within 3 months of the date of eligible family member’s death.
Confidential (C99) Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative.
Management Personnel Plan (MPP)(M80) Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative.
Executives (M98) Five (5) days for each death of an immediate family member or significantly close relative.
Excluded (E99, Police Officer Cadet only) Two days for each death of an immediate family member. Up to three additional days of unpaid bereavement leave. (Maximum of five (5) days).
All Other Excluded Up to five (5) days of unpaid bereavement leave (Note: Employees must be employed at least 30 days before the leave for the death of a family member). If requested, documentation of the death of the family member must be provided within 30 days of the first day of the leave. Documentation may include, but not limited to, a death certificate, a published obituary, or written verification of death, burial, or memorial services from a mortuary, funeral home, burial society, crematorium, religious institution, or governmental agency.
